Wisconsin Surrender Event a Success, September Event Scheduled
For people that have exotic pets they can no longer take care of, there was a chance to surrender them to a safe place, no questions asked.
The Habitattitude Exotic Pet Surrender Event was held at Econo Lodge Inn and Suites in Stevens Point on August 23rd 2020. Volunteers and organizations like J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue, The University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resource Institute, Golden Sands Resource Conservation & Development, K&R Small Animal Sanctuary, and BB’s Aquatic Service were all in attendance to help owners and pets alike.
In some areas, there are no rehoming options for exotic animals, and this event ensures that the pets are not released into the wild where they could wreak havoc on the environment.
Some of the animals surrendered over 15 animals including rabbits, turtles, sugar gliders, chickens, and a 4 foot American alligator. Volunteers were on hand to accept these animals – no questions asked.
All animals that were surrendered will find new homes with the help of the J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue’s Rehoming Network.
The next Habitattitude Exotic Pet Event will be held on September 12th in Menasha at Heckrodt Wetland Reserve.
